Buffalo Peace House

Through devoted work with refugees over the years, the Buffalo Peace House has identified the pressing need to provide a safe living arrangement for those who are rendered homeless or detained while they are waiting for their claims to U.S. residency to be resolved. We hope to create a community for these individuals and families while also providing access to legal and human services.

The importance of sufficient operating funds and volunteer assistance cannot be understated. You can help the Buffalo Peace House by spreading the word to your families, your colleagues, and your friends. With sufficient funding in place, we can address the urgent needs of U.S. asylum seekers in legal limbo and individuals with no home to return to, for whom there are a dearth of safe housing and opportunities in Western New York. Many of us are the descendants of immigrants. Together we can shepherd this next generation of Buffalonians toward healthy and productive lives here. Your moral, professional, and financial support is most appreciated.

We welcomed our first short-term residents through our Pilot Program with the International Institute of Buffalo in May, 2013.

Our Mission

The mission of the Buffalo Peace House is to provide safe housing and facilitate access to legal counsel for refugees and United States asylum seekers.

Our History

Established in 2009, the Buffalo Peace House provides a safe, clean haven for U.S. asylum seekers. Recent restrictive changes in Canadian immigration policies have contributed to rapidly increasing numbers of individuals and families seeking asylum in the United States. The legal process can take between six and sixteen months. The need for adequate housing and services for U.S. asylum seekers is critical at this time. The Buffalo Peace House is poised to address these issues.

Our Location

Buffalo Peace House is located in Hamburg, NY in the St. Francis of Assisi Church complex. We are conveniently located on the NFTA-Metro bus route 74, approximately 10 minutes from Tifft Nature Preserve and 15 minutes from downtown Buffalo.
